Moving Your Mobile Field Shelter Safely
Our mobile buildings are designed with durability in mind. We offer a choice between the standard timber skids or an upgrade to galvanized metal skids which are coated to prevent rust.
The timber skids are made with treated timber and are a versatile option for a shelter or stable which needs to be moved only a few times annually. The metal skids are an alternative option for easy movement and are much stronger alternative for moving your shelter numerous times throughout the course of the year.
As part of our package, we can provide a 16’ tow chain with D-shackles and tow ring to assist you.
Here are some considerations to keep in mind when relocating your shelter or stable:
- If your building has timber skids, then it may also include additional timbers (4×2) under the side panels and partitions. These MUST be removed prior to moving your building.
- Ensure the towing vehicle you are using to move your mobile building is appropriate for the size and weight.
- Plan your route carefully before towing the shelter. Identify any potential obstacles such as trees, stumps, fences, or uneven rocky ground, and choose the most suitable path for safe transportation.
- When towing the shelter, begin the movement very slowly and smoothly, using a low gear to avoid jerking motions.
- Ensure all bolts and screws are securely tightened, and re-tighten if necessary.
- Maintain a straight towing path and keep the speed below 5mph.
- Exercise caution when manoeuvring the shelter and allow for a wider turning radius when needed.
- Take care when passing through narrow gateways or field entrances.
- Whenever possible, position the shelter to face away from prevailing winds for added protection.
- Be mindful of uneven ground while towing and proceed with caution.
- Pay attention to the canopy height when moving near overhanging trees or other obstacles.
- Choose a flat, level, and firm area to place your shelter.
- Once in position, anchor the shelter to the ground securely using ground anchors. Re-install the anchors at their original positions prior to moving the building.
By following these guidelines, including planning your route in advance and considering potential obstacles such as trees, stumps, fences, or uneven rocky ground, you can ensure the safe and effortless relocation of your mobile field shelter, utilizing either the timber skids or galvanized metal skids provided, along with the tow chain and shackles we can supply.
